a little girl had been shopping with her mom in wal-mart. she must have been 6-years-old, this beautiful red-haired, freckle-faced image of innocence. it was pouring outside. the kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout. we all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the wal-mart.
we waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day. i am always mesmerized by rainfall. i got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child came pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.the little voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in: "mom, lets run through the rain," she said.
"what?" mom asked.
"lets run through the rain!" she repeated.
"no, honey. well wait until it slows down a bit," mom replied.
this young child waited about another minute and repeated: "mom, lets run through the rain."
"well get soaked if we do," mom said.
"no, we wont, mom. thats not what you said this morning," the young girl said as she tugged at her moms arm.
"this morning? when did i say we could run through the rain and not get wet?"
"dont you remember? when you were talking to daddy about his cancer, you said, if god can get us through this, he can get us through anything!"
the entire crowd stopped dead silent. i swear you couldnt hear anything but the rain. we all stood silently. no one came or left in the net few minutes.
mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.
now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. some might even ignore what was said. but this was a moment of affirmation in a young childs life. a time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith.
"honey, you are absolutely right. lets run through the rain. if god lets us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing," mom said.
then off they ran. we all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and, yes, through the puddles. they got soaked. but they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.
and yes, i did. i ran. i got wet. i needed washing.

她很机智、幽默。有一次，我们在抄家庭作业，教室里十分安静，就连一根针掉在地上都能听得见。罗老师又口头布置一项作业：“抄写第四单元E部分短语，”老师话还未说完，同学们开始抱怨：“啊？”“怎么啦？”老师问道。有一个嘴特别快的同学大声说：“十遍！”他正儿八经地扮起老师，布置了作业，只见他满脸得意地笑着。
同学们皱着眉头，眼睛齐刷刷地指着他：“你！”又转向老师：“老师，少点吧！”
这时，罗老师眯着眼睛对那位假扮老师的同学说：“好！你一个人抄十遍，其他的人只用抄一遍！”结果那位同学的`笑脸瞬间变成了“苦瓜”脸，笑容立刻转移到我们的脸上了。
罗老师不仅幽默、风趣，还十分严厉。又到周一早上了，糟了，我忘了带英语作业。英语课上，我一直忐忑不安，害怕老师发现后会批评我。我和同学一起看他的作业，刚开始还是很平静，我多么希望能一直平静下去，但“平静”还是被打破了。老师来到了我的身旁，脸上露出严厉的神情：“你们谁没带作业？”我胆怯地说：“是我！”我的声音很小，说完便低下了头。罗老师对我说：“下课去我的办公室！”语气是不容置疑的。
下课了，我是一步一步地挪去办公室的，已经做好了挨批评的准备。可谁知，老师并没有骂我，而是心平气和地对我说：“凡事预则立，不预则废。你一到学校就得呆上一周，所以你需要整理好每一件物品，这是习惯问题。”老师的话语像烙印一样刻在了我的心里。我向老师承认了错误，老师微笑地看着我，我知道这是一种信任。那一刻，我闻到了老师办公室里淡淡的茉莉花香，一盆茉莉花在老师的桌前静静地开放。从那以后，我没有再将作业落在家里。
